The
Hyundai Getz made its debut here early in 2003 but the
1,3-litre version is a more recent addition to the range. The
engine develops 60 kW and 117 Nm.
At R94 000 it is good value for money.
Surprisingly the 1,3-litre version of the Getz is not equipped
with airbags, although the basic Getz recorded a good
four-star rating in the European NCAP standardized safety
test.
What it does offer as standard is electric front windows,
power steering and central locking with an immobilizer.
Air-conditioning adds an extra R6 000 to the deal, and our car
in fact was the air-con model, weighing in just shy of R100
000.
The Getz makes excellent use of interior space and also offers
a reasonable 200 litres of luggage space with the rear seats
in the upright position.
Performance is zippy, with a claimed top speed of 163 km/h and
a nought to hundred of 13, 4 seconds.
The Getz also rides well, with gas damping at the rear
smoothing out smaller undulations. Braking is reasonable, with
discs up front and drums at the rear, although ABS is again
not fitted.
