Audi’s
A4 is the most important model in its range as it’s the big
volume seller. And the most important aspect of the new car is
the deep, bold, grille that gives the A4 a presence it has never
enjoyed before.
The rear end styling is not as dramatic, and some could see the
new taillights as a bit weak.
The new look could be seen as a coming-of-age for the A4. It now
has an identity as strong as its rivals from BMW and Mercedes.
And the image is backed by dynamic and build-quality attributes
that some see as the standard-bearer in its class.
The Car Torque team sampled the two-litre TDi engine, which
replaces the old 1,9 litre turbodiesel. It delivers a 103
kiloWatts and 320 Newton Metres of torque at 1750 rpm.
Other engine options include a 2 litre petrol engine, a 147
kiloWatt turbocharged 2 litre petrol engine, and a 3 litre V6
diesel.
Drive is through the front wheels, with six-speed manual and DSG
gearboxes on offer.
The suspension has been substantially revised to handle the
power upgrades.
The interior has been subtly refined, while space and quality
levels are excellent.
Satellite Navigation is also available as an option on most A4
models.
That new Audi trademark nose takes a bit of getting used to, but
it’s well integrated in the new A4 shape.
Car torque feels Audi is on the right track with its new
volume-seller.
